Patrick believes training in Aikido can uniquely enhance everyone’s life and that by applying oneself to varied mind-body disciplines, one becomes more profoundly adaptable and capable. He is also a member of Fats In The Cats Bicycle Club, an IMBA Chapter. He founded The Catskill Crankers, a local bike club that rides all surfaces and seems to be an excuse for a moveable feast. When not in the dojo, Patrick can be found on a bike shredding wilderness trails, grinding some gravel or logging some road mileage. Patrick finds the strict katas of Iaido (drawing & cutting with the sword) have greatly informed his balance and integral skeletal structure. In 2015 Patrick felt the need to dig deeper into meditative movement and Aikido’s connection to sword work, so he began studying Iaido with Vu Ha, Sensei at Boston Aikikai.

He traces his lineage directly back to the founder of Aikido through Konigsberg Shihan, who studies under Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan of The New York Aikikai, who was a direct student of the founder, Morihei Ueshiba, O-Sensei. He began studying Aikido under Harvey Konigsberg of Woodstock Aikido in 2003, and in 2009 simultaneously began serious training with Bob Wilcox of Kingston Aikido, adding another perspective to his art. Gaucher is the Chief Instructor and co-founder of Rivertide, and is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Aikido.
